In 2005, the country of Spain climbed to the second most popular tourist destination in the world. This is hardly surprising when you acknowledge the predictable sunny weather, renowned sandy beaches on the Mediterranean coast and the abundance of cheap flights going to this premiere holiday hot spot every year.
Further inland away from the busy coast, Spain's rich culture and traditions can be further explored whilst experiencing a beautifully diverse landscape. Travelling between the different regions in Spain is very easy, with an abundance of accommodation on offer and fantastic local cuisine awaiting you at every step of your journey. With so many things to see and do, it is not hard to see why so many people flock to this region every year
Spain is one of the largest countries in Europe and one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. In total there are 17 administrative regions in Spain, not including the famous Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea and the Canaries in the Atlantic Ocean. In total, Spain comprises of nearly 5000 km of coastline and is also home to five large mountain ranges with the highest point being ?Mt. Mulhacen? at 3482m. From white sandy beaches and azure seas to lush green mountain pastures and meandering river valleys, Spain offers many diverse landscapes.
Due to Spain?s great geographic diversity, this is a country where good weather can be found all year round. The summer months of July and August can be extremely hot inland and rather crowded on the popular southern seaside resorts. During this period it is possible to escape the heat and tourists by heading to the northwest of Spain where quiet beaches and mountainous regions can be found. From a beach holiday in summer to a skiing holiday in winter, Spain is a paradise for those who appreciate a sunny climate.
