COUNTRY Guide
The Ultimate in Accommodation Booking

England comprises of the largest land area of the United Kingdom, informally referred to as Britain, and represents the most populous part of the United Kingdom. With nearly 50 million inhabitants (a population 10 times greater than in Scotland), this accounts for more than 83% of the total population of the United Kingdom. London, the prosperous capital of England, is the largest city in the European Union and remains a very cosmopolitan city with a great deal of ethnic diversity.

As the place of origin of the English language, the historic centre of the British empire and the first country in the world to become industrialised, England has a fascinating history dating back to the Roman Empire. Today in modern times, England and the rest of the UK represent a central hub to the music industry, comedy and the arts.

To dispel the culinary reputation perceived on the continent, England offers an excellent variety of food from many different countries. Indian curries have become somewhat a national dish in England and the rest of the UK, whilst English pubs continue to serve up traditional lunches which cannot be beaten.

Separated from the European continent by the English Channel (France is only 35 km away from the English coastline at the narrowest point), there are many beautiful landscapes and typical country English towns and villages which must be explored. To the north of England, the Lake District is famous for its roaming hills and rivers and attracts the outdoor enthusiasts, whilst on the south coast some great coastal areas can be found with some excellent surfing spots for the surfing fanatics.
England occupies most of the southern two-thirds of the United Kingdom and shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west.

World Weather

During summer, the greatest amount of sunshine can be found in southern England where summers can get quite warm and even continental in feeling compared to the north. Winter months are typically wet, cold and grey with short daylight hours. Best periods to visit are May, June and September, if going to otherwise busy tourist destinations.
